The only known topiary interpretation of a painting in the world, Topiary Park offers a unique landscape, rich in history.
Located in Columbus’ downtown Discovery District, the Topiary Garden Park sits on the remnants of the Old Deaf School Park – which dates back to the early nineteenth century.
In 1992, the sculptor James Mason, inspired by his wife Elaine, completed the living recreation of Georges Seurat's famous post-Impressionist painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of LaGrande Jatte. Mason created the sculptural frames that coax the park’s yew trees into their distinct shapes. The landscape consists of 50 topiary people, 8 boats, 3 dogs, a monkey, a cat, a real pond and trees.
The park is free and open year-round from dawn to dusk. A gift store and visitor center are open seasonally during the summer months on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
